Every time I read the words of the ancients, I feel a bond to
them. I sigh and lament, but cannot
express more. I know life and death may
come to naught, and that between long life and death there may be no
difference.
We in the present look at those in the past; those in the future will
look back on us in the same way.
Therefore, I make a record of my contemporaries and their words. Times will change, yet our feelings will
linger. What will those in the future
feel when they read these words?
